- Box in box. Double-pack the items in two separate containers. The outer one must be sturdy and resistant to pressure.
- Keep it inconspicuous. On the shipper's forms — for example the FedEx “Description of goods” — do not mention diamonds, gold, jewellery, ruby, sapphire and so on. Declare the contents as “Crystals” or “Minerals”.
Customs
- Always declare the true value on your proforma invoice and as the customs value, and use the correct customs codes.
- Gemstones enter Switzerland temporarily for testing. Arrange temporary import clearance (for example an ATA Carnet) before you ship.
You are responsible for insuring your shipment.
If you have no Jewellers Block policy and no insurance through your shipper, SIG can arrange insurance — provided you follow the steps above, complete the submission form, and add the AWB or tracking number immediately after booking. Maximum CHF 500,000 for a secure carrier (Malca-Amit, Brinks, Ferrari, Huxe, Loomis or Bianchi), which may be used for both international and domestic shipments. Swiss Post (registered), DHL, FedEx and UPS may only be used for domestic shipments within Switzerland — not for international shipments — and are covered up to CHF 50,000.
FedEx value for carriage: declare US$1,000, the maximum FedEx will insure.

After you ship
- Send us the tracking number. Once your shipment is booked, add the AWB or tracking number so we can watch for its arrival. The last step of the form has a field for it, and the copy we email you links back to the same field. Failing both, send it to shipping@sig-labs.com.
Bring it in person
- Book a time: contact swiss@sig-labs.com or +41 41 883 08 08 to arrange a drop-off.
- Bring a valid ID and, if you filled it in at the next step, your printed submission form. Otherwise we complete one with you at the counter.
- We confirm receipt and hand you a signed acknowledgement.

- Hong Kong requires an import and export declaration (US$40 in / US$40 out). Your courier can usually file it for you.
